Director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri has officially changed the title of his upcoming film from ‘The Delhi Files: The Bengal Chapter’ to ‘The Bengal Files: Right to Life,’ bowing to public demand. The film, set to release on September 5, 2025, is the third installment in Agnihotri’s politically charged “Files” trilogy. Exploring the tragic events of undivided Bengal in the 1940s—including Direct Action Day and the Noakhali riots—the movie aims to shed light on what Agnihotri calls a “Hindu genocide.”
Produced by Agnihotri, Pallavi Joshi, and Abhishek Agarwal, ‘The Bengal Files’ stars Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, and Pallavi Joshi. Due to security concerns, much of the filming shifted from Kolkata to Mumbai. Despite logistical hurdles, production has wrapped, and anticipation is soaring. A gripping teaser featuring Chakraborty reciting the Constitution’s Preamble amid haunting visuals has already crossed 10 million YouTube views.
Earlier, Agnihotri invited public contributions to the film’s research through a social media video, posing the provocative question: “Is Bengal going to become another Kashmir?” This hints at the film’s dual role as historical documentation and a cautionary tale. Following the success of ‘The Tashkent Files’ (2019) and ‘The Kashmir Files’ (2022), ‘The Bengal Files’ continues Agnihotri’s mission to spotlight forgotten chapters of India’s past.
