Mayday Call Before Crash: Air India Flight Goes Down Near Ahmedabad

In a tragic incident on Thursday afternoon, an Air India flight bound for London crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport. The aircraft, carrying 242 people, issued a Mayday distress call moments before the crash, signaling a dire emergency.

Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, had 230 passengers and 12 crew members onboard. It crashed near Ghoda Camp, close to the airport perimeter, just after its 1:10 PM departure.

Air India confirmed the incident in an official statement, saying they are working to gather details and will provide updates soon. The airline’s Chairman, N. Chandrasekaran, expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to the families of those affected.

Rescue teams rushed to the crash site, where thick smoke was reported. The condition of passengers remains unconfirmed as authorities work on the scene. The location lies between Meghaninagar and Ahmedabad Cantonment.
