The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) took International Yoga Day celebrations to new heights—literally. On June 21, the 11th International Day of Yoga, officers from the 24th Battalion performed yoga on the banks of Pangong Tso at Border Outposts Dhan Singh Thapa and Chartse. These locations sit at a staggering altitude of 14,100 to 14,200 feet, making the session a breathtaking display of discipline and wellness.

Visuals shared by ITBP captured the serene yet rigorous yoga practice against the stunning backdrop of Pangong Tso, a high-altitude lake known for its crystal-clear waters. The event was part of a series of preludes to International Yoga Day, with multiple ITBP units across the country participating in similar sessions.

Days earlier, the 54th Battalion of ITBP held a yoga session, showcasing their commitment to wellness. The force posted on X, “54 Bn #ITBP organised a yoga session as a prelude to International Yoga Day 2025. Himveers participated with zeal, reinforcing the spirit of wellness and discipline.”

Not to be outdone, the 4th Corps of ITBP in Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh, rolled out yoga sessions at altitudes above 12,000 feet. Their social media post highlighted, “4th Corps #ITBP, Dirang organised yoga sessions and cleanliness drives at the Corps Headquarters and forward posts at altitudes above 12000 feet.”

Meanwhile, celebrations weren’t limited to the mountains. The Indian Coast Guard joined in, with officials in Visakhapatnam and aboard the CG Ship Rani Abbakka practicing yoga along Tamil Nadu’s sacred shores. Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Visakhapatnam to lead the main event, themed “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” This theme underscores the connection between human and planetary well-being, drawing from the ancient Indian principle of “Sarve Santu Niramaya”—may all be free from disease.

The Ministry of AYUSH reported that Modi performed the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) alongside over 3 lakh participants in Visakhapatnam. The event was synchronised with more than 10 lakh locations nationwide under the “Yoga Sangam” initiative. From 6:30 to 7:45 AM, the mass demonstration brought together people from all corners of India in a unified celebration of health and harmony.

Union Minister of State (IC) Ayush, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav, and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu joined the Prime Minister in this grand display of India’s global wellness vision. The ITBP’s high-altitude yoga sessions not only highlighted their physical endurance but also served as a reminder of yoga’s universal appeal, transcending borders and altitudes.
