In a game-changing move, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved the formation of the Uttar Pradesh Rozgar Mission. This ambitious initiative aims to create job opportunities not just within India but also abroad, with direct support from the state government. Finance Minister Suresh Khanna confirmed the approval during a recent Cabinet meeting, which greenlit 30 proposals, including this employment mega-plan.
The mission is designed to empower UP’s youth while positioning the state as a global talent hub. It aligns perfectly with the government’s vision of “Employment for Every Hand and Respect for Every Skill.” Labour Minister Anil Rajbhar highlighted that, unlike the past where employment drives relied heavily on Rozgar Melas and private recruiters, this mission will directly facilitate job placements for the youth.
Here’s the exciting part: the mission has set a bold target. Over the next year, it aims to place one lakh youth in jobs within India and another 25,000 to 30,000 in foreign employment. What’s more, the state will now have its own recruiting agent (RA) license, cutting out middlemen and ensuring safer, government-backed overseas job placements.
The global market is eager for UP’s skilled workforce, particularly in high-demand fields like paramedical services, nursing, driving, and technical roles. This mission is all about unlocking that potential and giving the state’s youth a direct pathway to international opportunities.
But that’s not all. The Cabinet also made a landmark decision for women’s employment. Earlier, women were restricted to working in only 12 less hazardous industries. Recently, four more categories were added. Now, in a progressive shift, the UP government has approved employment for women in all 29 hazardous factory categories—provided their health and safety are guaranteed.
Labour Minister Rajbhar emphasized that this change responds to both technological advancements and industry demands. By allowing women equal access to high-risk sectors, the government is reinforcing its commitment to inclusive growth as Uttar Pradesh marches toward its $1 trillion economy goal.
On the infrastructure front, the state is also making big moves. The Cabinet approved the construction of a new 49.96 km Greenfield Link Expressway. This six-lane (expandable to eight lanes) expressway will connect the Agra-Lucknow Expressway to the Purvanchal Expressway, significantly improving travel between key cities like Lucknow, Agra, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, and Ghazipur.
Built on the EPC model, the Rs 4,775.84 crore project will be fully funded by the state. Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ explained that this new expressway will complement UP’s growing expressway network, which includes the Agra-Lucknow, Purvanchal, Ganga, Bundelkhand, and Gorakhpur Link expressways. The enhanced connectivity will boost logistics, mobility, and economic growth across the state.
The Uttar Pradesh Rozgar Mission is more than just an employment initiative. It’s a bold statement of intent, showcasing the state’s commitment to skill development, global employability, and inclusive economic progress. With streamlined overseas job placements and groundbreaking policy changes for women workers, UP is setting a new benchmark for other states to follow.
