Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently highlighted khadi as more than just fabric. He emphasized its deep ties to swadeshi and self-reliance. Shah spoke at the Khadi Karigar Mahotsav in Rohtak, stressing its historical significance.

He criticized successive governments, particularly the Congress, for their neglect. Shah stated they forgot about khadi after Independence. This neglect hindered its promotion and growth.

Khadi was central to Mahatma Gandhi’s freedom movement. It aimed to eradicate poverty and foster self-reliance. Gandhi used it to promote swadeshi across the nation.

Shah linked past inaction to current unemployment issues. He argued that consistent efforts could have prevented these problems. The focus on khadi could have transformed rural economies.

Modi’s commitment to khadi began in Gujarat. As Chief Minister, he resolved to revive this traditional fabric. His efforts continued after becoming Prime Minister.

Through Mann Ki Baat, Modi encouraged public embrace of khadi. This boosted awareness and usage nationwide. The initiative rekindled interest in indigenous products.

Khadi’s economic impact has been substantial. Turnover surged from ₹33,000 crore in 2014-15 to ₹1.70 lakh crore currently. This growth reflects renewed focus and investment.

Employment opportunities have expanded significantly. The entire turnover supports weavers and women workers. Modern designs and better marketing have made khadi appealing.

Shah connected swaraj with swadeshi and swabhasha. He noted Modi’s push for indigenous goods. Many traders now avoid foreign products.

This swadeshi vision benefits rural citizens. It aligns with building a self-reliant India. Community support is crucial for its success.

Shah urged households to buy ₹5,000 worth of khadi yearly. This strengthens self-reliance and aids poor families. It also boosts the national economy.

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission drives key initiatives. ‘Khadi for Nation’ and ‘Khadi for Fashion’ are central to their work. Modi’s campaigns inspire these efforts.

‘Khadi Apnao, Swadeshi Apnao’ is a major campaign. Confidence is high that it will achieve self-reliance. Public participation is key to its impact.

Earlier, Shah inaugurated the Sabar Dairy Plant in Rohtak. India’s dairy sector grew 70% over 11 years. It is the world’s fastest-growing dairy industry.

Haryana’s Chief Minister highlighted the dairy’s second phase. It will meet rising demand in northern India. New jobs and cooperative growth are expected outcomes.
