Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Micron Semiconductor Facility in Sanand, Gujarat. This marks a pivotal moment for India’s technological ambitions. The Prime Minister declared that while oil regulated the 20th century, the microchip will regulate the 21st. He positioned this project as a cornerstone of the ongoing AI revolution.

India is now emerging globally as a capable and committed partner. With this investment of approximately 22,516 crore rupees, Gujarat is set to establish its identity as the country’s semiconductor hub. The event signals a major shift in India’s industrial capabilities.

The Prime Minister outlined a clear roadmap for the nation’s future in this critical sector. He stated that India, long celebrated for its software prowess, is now forging a strong identity in hardware. The country is rapidly integrating into the global semiconductor value chain.

He confidently assured the world that India is ready, reliable, and delivers. This message was delivered to a gathering that included Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The atmosphere was one of historic significance and forward momentum.

The Prime Minister toured the state-of-the-art ATMP plant, observing assembly and packaging operations. This facility, built under the National Semiconductor Mission, represents cutting-edge technology. He also witnessed the handover of Dell Technologies’ first commercial Made-in-India shipment.

Highlighting the project’s remarkable speed, Modi noted the MoU was signed in June 2023. The foundation stone was laid in September, with commercial production slated for February 2026. Completing such a process in just 900 days showcases India’s clear intent and commitment.

He emphasized that semiconductors are the crucial link between the Industrial Revolution and the AI Revolution. India’s efforts during the COVID period are now yielding strong results. Ten major projects have already been approved under the Semicon India Program.

The aim is not merely to build one factory but to cultivate an entire semiconductor ecosystem. India is focusing on the complete value chain, from design to manufacturing logistics. The launch of ‘India Semiconductor Mission 2.0’ is a major step in this ambitious direction.

Speaking on market potential, Modi highlighted continuously rising demand in electronics and automobiles. ‘Make in India’ is now advancing in full swing. Over the past decade, electronic manufacturing and exports have seen multi-fold growth.

Recalling his personal memories of Sanand, the Prime Minister called it a land that turns soil into gold. He remembered the area’s automobile revolution sparked by Ratan Tata. Today, Sanand is emerging as a global semiconductor hub.

He praised the plant’s environmental credentials, including its minimal water use and recycling systems. The facility’s clean room is among the largest in the world. This balance between progress and nature sets a strong example for future industrial projects.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel called the inauguration a key step in building the semiconductor ecosystem. Under the Prime Minister’s leadership, Gujarat is becoming a global growth engine. Sanand and Dholera have solidified their positions as major semiconductor centres.

He highlighted the project’s swift approval, cleared by the state within 24 hours of the national mission’s nod. Such speed is possible because Gujarat works with the Prime Minister’s benchmarks. The vision is ‘Aatmanirbhar Gujarat for Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw called the day historic, fulfilling a six-decade dream. Completing the project in 900 days reflects the spirit of ‘Modi Hai To Mumkin Hai’. Under this leadership, electronics manufacturing has increased sixfold and exports eightfold.

US Ambassador Sergio Gor described the plant as a symbol of strong India-US relations. It represents the synergy between American technology and India’s manufacturing excellence. He stated India has become a secure and reliable option in the global semiconductor supply chain.

Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra called it a memorable moment in history. The plant will produce crores of chips annually to meet global demand, especially for AI systems. It follows 100 percent water reuse and sustainable practices.

The plant manufactures advanced storage and memory devices like SSD, DRAM, and NAND. These are indispensable in the AI era, where strong memory support is critical. The facility features an ultra-clean ‘cleanroom’ environment.

In terms of employment, the project is a new ray of hope. A team of 2,000 people is currently working, with plans to expand to over 5,000 direct jobs. Notably, the plant provides equal employment opportunities for Divyang citizens as operators and technicians.

This initiative is more than an industrial project; it is an investment in the dreams of the youth. With the mantra of ‘Make in India, Made for the World’, Gujarat is committed to realising the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. The event was attended by a host of state ministers, MPs, and dignitaries.
