In a proud moment for the nation, President Droupadi Murmu approved the prestigious Tatrakshak medals for five Indian Coast Guard personnel on the eve of India’s 79th Independence Day. The Ministry of Defence announced the honors, recognizing their gallantry, devotion to duty, and meritorious service.
The Tatrakshak Medal for Gallantry was awarded to Commandant Srinivas Gadam, Junior Commandant Ankit Sharma, and Rajkamal Attri. Their acts of bravery highlight the unwavering commitment of India’s defenders. Meanwhile, Inspector General Anupam Rai and Deputy Inspector General Bibhuti Ranjan received the Tatrakshak Medal for Meritorious Service, a testament to their exemplary contributions.
As the nation geared up to celebrate Independence Day, President Murmu addressed the country with heartfelt greetings. She emphasized the pride that comes with being Indian and reflected on the sacrifices that shaped the nation’s history.
Her speech took a somber turn as she remembered the horrors of the 1947 Partition. August 14 marks Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, a time to honor the millions who suffered during one of history’s darkest chapters. The violence, displacement, and trauma of Partition left scars that linger even today.
“Terrible violence was witnessed, and millions were forced to relocate due to Partition,” President Murmu said. The provinces of Punjab and Bengal bore the brunt of the riots, with countless lives lost and families torn apart. The President urged Indians never to forget the pain of those events while paying tribute to the victims.
The President’s message resonated deeply as the country prepared to celebrate its freedom. These honors for the Coast Guard personnel serve as a reminder of the courage and dedication that continue to uphold India’s sovereignty.
The Indian Coast Guard’s role in safeguarding the nation’s maritime borders is often understated, but their sacrifices and service are second to none. The Tatrakshak medals symbolize the nation’s gratitude to these unsung heroes.
