Kinetic Engineering has made a dramatic comeback into the two-wheeler market, this time with an electric twist. The company relaunched its iconic Kinetic DX scooter in an electric avatar, marking its ambitious plans to become a key player in India’s growing electric vehicle segment. The new Kinetic DX promises an impressive range of 116 km on a single charge and a top speed of 90 km/hr, blending nostalgia with modern technology.

The Pune-based automaker, which once dominated the scooter market from 1984 to 2009, is now setting its sights on capturing a 6-8% market share in the electric two-wheeler space within the next three years. Vice Chairman and Managing Director Ajinkya Firodia shared that the company aims to sell 1.5 lakh units in the next 3-4 years, requiring a network of around 300 dealerships to support this vision.

To achieve these targets, Kinetic has committed significant investments. A total of Rs 177 crore will be injected into the business over the next 18 months to ramp up production and expand the sales network. The company plans to manufacture 40,000 units by August 2026 before scaling up further. Currently, Kinetic has onboarded 20 dealers, with plans to expand to 160 in the first year alone.

The western region will be the initial focus, followed by expansions in the northern, eastern, and southern parts of India. Firodia emphasized the importance of reliability and strong service networks, critical factors for success in the competitive Indian market. The company also has global ambitions, intending to export the electric scooter to international markets in the future.

Kinetic Watts and Volts, a wholly-owned subsidiary established in September 2022, is spearheading this electric venture. The promoters have already infused Rs 72 crore into the subsidiary, with an additional Rs 177 crore pledged to support the expansion. The Kinetic DX is competitively priced at Rs 1,11,499 (ex-showroom, Pune), while the upgraded DX+ model comes in at Rs 1,17,499.

What sets the new Kinetic DX apart is its innovative motor design, which eliminates the need for rare earth magnets—a move that addresses ongoing global supply chain challenges. Firodia described the relaunch as more than just a product revival, calling it a reinvention of Kinetic’s legacy for a new era. With sleek connected features and a commitment to robust performance, the electric Kinetic DX is poised to challenge established players in India’s fast-evolving two-wheeler market.
