Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has extended his congratulations to Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan for being named the NDA’s vice presidential candidate. Calling him a seasoned statesman, Sarma highlighted Radhakrishnan’s long-standing commitment to public service.

Sarma took to social media to applaud the decision. “The Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra Thiru C P Radhakrishnan is a veteran statesman who has diligently served the nation in numerous roles,” he wrote. He emphasized that Radhakrishnan’s dedication has been unwavering, whether as a governor or a parliamentarian.

The nomination was announced by BJP president J P Nadda after a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Nadda expressed hope that opposition parties would lend their support to the NDA’s choice. Radhakrishnan’s political journey is marked by decades of service, beginning as an RSS volunteer and later rising through the ranks of the BJP.

Born in Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan has been a key figure in both state and national politics. He served two terms as a Lok Sabha MP from Coimbatore and held important roles in parliamentary committees, including textiles, finance, and public sector undertakings. His administrative experience also includes serving as Maharashtra’s Governor and holding additional charges in Telangana and Puducherry.

The vice-presidential election, scheduled for September 9, follows the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar. Nominations for the post must be submitted by August 22. With his deep roots in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape and extensive governance background, Radhakrishnan is seen as a strong contender.

Political observers note that Radhakrishnan’s nomination reflects the BJP’s strategic emphasis on experienced leaders with a strong organizational foundation. His long tenure in public service positions him as a figure of stability and continuity within the NDA.
