Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to arrive in Patna today. He will participate in the nomination filing for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. This event highlights the BJP’s focus on the biennial polls.
Bihar BJP President Sanjay Saraogi provided the schedule. Shah and National President Nitin Nabin are expected around noon. They will join the nomination process for all NDA leaders between 1:30 and 2 pm.
The nominations are a key procedural step. The Rajya Sabha elections are crucial for shaping the Upper House. Today’s events in Bihar are part of that larger national process.
Nitin Nabin is a prominent candidate from the state. The party has also selected Shivesh Kumar to run from Bihar. These candidates represent the BJP’s strategy for the region.
Other states have their own candidates. In Assam, Terash Gowalla and Jogen Mohan received nominations. Laxmi Verma will contest from Chhattisgarh.
Sanjay Bhatia is the candidate from Haryana. Odisha will see Manmohan Samal and Sujeet Kumar representing the party. Rahul Sinha has been chosen from West Bengal.
The NDA alliance announced its slate for Maharashtra. Republican Party of India (Athawale) chief Ramdas Athawale is a candidate. BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde, Ramrao Wadkute, and Maya Chitaman Ivnate round out the list.
Meanwhile, political circles are buzzing with speculation. There is talk about Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar potentially filing a nomination. Sources from his Janata Dal (United) party have fueled this rumor.
These sources suggest Nitish Kumar might resign as Chief Minister. A move to the Rajya Sabha is being discussed as a possibility. This has created a stir in state politics.
However, Union Minister Giriraj Singh quickly refuted the claims. He dismissed the speculation as mere Holi season jokes. Singh affirmed that Nitish Kumar remains the Chief Minister.
Union Minister Chirag Paswan also dismissed the rumors. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief denied any discussion of a leadership change. He stated that Nitish Kumar will continue to lead Bihar.
Paswan emphasized the strength of the double-engine government. He said the current administration is working well for the state. This statement aims to quell the ongoing speculation.
The election timeline is now in motion. Today, March 5, is the last day for filing nominations. Scrutiny will follow on March 6.
Candidates have until March 9 to withdraw their nominations. Polling is scheduled for March 16. Vote counting will occur the same day at 5 pm.
The entire election process will conclude by March 20. These dates mark a busy period for political parties. The Rajya Sabha elections are a significant political event.
A total of 37 seats across 10 states are up for grabs. The states include Maharashtra, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu. West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh are also on the list.
Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana complete the group. The terms of the current members end in April 2026. These elections will determine their replacements for the next term.
