The Karnataka BJP has called on the Congress-led state government to ensure Hindus can celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with full grandeur this year. The demand was made by Leader of Opposition Chalavadi Narayanaswamy during a press conference at Vidhana Soudha on Friday.

Narayanaswamy emphasized that the state should enforce a uniform policy for all festivals. He warned against any attempts to single out Hindu celebrations with restrictive measures. The senior BJP leader insisted that Ganesh Chaturthi, a festival deeply rooted in tradition, must not be subdued.

In his statement, Narayanaswamy pointed to inconsistencies in how different districts handle festivities. He singled out Kalaburagi, calling it the ‘Republic of Kalaburagi’ where state laws allegedly don’t function properly. His remarks targeted Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyank Kharge, both from the region.

The opposition leader also criticized the reported ban on DJ music during the celebrations in Mangaluru. Around 1,300 sound system operators and 6,000 dependents face severe livelihood challenges due to police actions, he claimed. Cases are being filed, equipment seized, and operators arrested after 8 p.m., leaving families struggling.

Narayanaswamy accused the government of adjourning legislative discussions on the issue, calling it a cowardly move. He stressed that while other communities receive favorable treatment, Hindus are being unfairly targeted. The BJP’s stance is clear: Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations must proceed without undue restrictions.

The debate highlights the ongoing tensions between religious freedoms and regulatory measures. With the festival approaching, all eyes are on how the Karnataka government will respond to these demands. Will there be a compromise, or will the controversy escalate further?

For now, the BJP’s message is unwavering. Hindus should have the right to celebrate their traditions just as others do. The coming days will reveal whether the state listens or if the political clash intensifies.
