The Congress party didn’t hold back in its criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech, labeling it as “stale, hypocritical, and troubling.” The opposition party accused the BJP of crossing moral boundaries to cling to power, while also raising concerns over alleged electoral irregularities sweeping the nation. The fiery remarks came after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge hoisted the national flag at the party headquarters, setting the tone for a scathing rebuttal. One of the key grievances highlighted was the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar’s electoral rolls, which, according to Kharge, unfairly targeted opposition votes. He alleged that legitimate voters were being wrongly declared dead, skewing the electoral process. “This isn’t just about winning elections,” Kharge declared. “It’s about safeguarding India’s democracy and protecting the Constitution.” The Congress leader also questioned the Election Commission’s neutrality, pointing out its refusal to disclose details about the voters being removed from the rolls. Kharge didn’t stop there. He accused central agencies like the ED, CBI, and the Income Tax Department of being weaponized against political opponents, a practice so blatant that even the Supreme Court had to intervene. Meanwhile, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh zeroed in on Modi’s mention of the RSS in his speech, calling it a violation of India’s secular principles. The BJP, however, fired back, criticizing Rahul Gandhi and Kharge for skipping the PM’s address. The war of words underscores the deepening political divide as both sides dig in their heels. With accusations flying and tensions rising, the battle for India’s democratic soul shows no signs of cooling down.
