Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav made a strong statement on Saturday, connecting the future of reservation directly to the survival of the Indian Constitution. Speaking on Reservation Day, observed as Samvidhaan Maanstambh Divas by the party, Yadav emphasized that the Constitution serves as both a shield and armour for social justice and equality.

The event, organized across Uttar Pradesh, saw the installation of symbolic Constitution pillars in various districts. Lucknow, Ghazipur, Gorakhpur, and other cities hosted programs where senior SP leaders presided. Yadav reiterated the party’s commitment to protecting reservation policies, calling them inseparable from the Constitution itself.

“The Constitution illuminates our path toward social justice,” Yadav said in a party statement. He stressed that reservation cannot exist without the framework provided by the Constitution, framing it as a non-negotiable pillar of equality. The event aimed to reinforce public awareness about the link between constitutional values and affirmative action policies.

Prominent attendees included SP general secretary Shivpal Singh Yadav, Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey, and other key figures who led ceremonies in their respective regions. Across Uttar Pradesh, district units mirrored the program, underscoring the party’s statewide focus on the issue.

Yadav’s remarks come amid ongoing national debates about reservation policies and constitutional safeguards. By positioning the Constitution as fundamental to reservation, the SP has drawn a clear line in the political discourse. The event also served as a platform to rally support around the party’s PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) welfare agenda.

With Uttar Pradesh being a critical battleground in Indian politics, the SP’s emphasis on constitutional values and social justice signals its strategy ahead of future elections. The party’s messaging aligns with its broader appeal to marginalized communities, leveraging constitutional principles as a unifying theme.
